Masswork and Bay of Lights Golf Development Partner to Bring First USGA-Certified Waterfront Golf Co

Cambodia Investment Review

Cambodia is set to get its first USGA-certified waterfront golf course, with Masswork announcing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bay of Lights Golf Development. Masswork, will serve as a co-investor and turnkey developer for the course, which will be located in Sihanoukville and feature an 18-hole golf course and driving range.

The partnership aims to ensure the optimal development, construction, and operation of the course, which is expected to be a major attraction for golfers both locally and internationally.

The agreement was signed at the launch of the Bay of Light ground breaking ceremony.

In addition to the golf course, the Bay of Lights development will also include a range of amenities and facilities, including a club house, pro shop, and restaurants. The MoU between Masswork and Bay of Lights Golf Development is a clear indication of the growing demand for high-quality golf experiences in Cambodia.

With its stunning natural surroundings and world-class facilities, the Bay of Lights golf course is expected to be a major success and make a significant contribution to the Cambodian golf industry.

Deliver a truly one-of-a-kind coastal golf experience

Dalton Wong, Chairman of Masswork, said: “We are thrilled to announce the MoU with Bay of Lights Golf Development. This partnership represents a unique opportunity for Masswork to bring our expertise in construction materials and contract works to the table, as we work alongside Bay of Lights Golf Development to deliver a truly one-of-a-kind coastal golf experience.”

The Bay of Lights golf course will be developed as part of the Canopy Sands Development’s $16 billion, 934-ha Bay of Lights New Township project in Ream City, Sihanoukville.

The Startup Phase of 50-ha will include a beach club, cabin lodging, go-kart track, reverse bungee jump, and paintball, is set to be completed by the first half of 2023, with construction of the entire project expected to be finished by 2050.

Cambodia is home to a growing number of golf courses, with both local and international developers investing in the country’s golf industry. However, many of these courses are located inland and do not offer the unique coastal setting that the Bay of Lights golf course will provide. The USGA-certified waterfront course will be a major addition to Cambodia’s golf scene and is expected to attract a large number of golfers from around the world.

The country’s golf industry is still in its early stages of development, but with the addition of high-quality courses like the Bay of Lights, it is poised to become a major destination for golfers looking for a unique and memorable golfing experience.

Bay of Lights strategic location

Managing Director of Canopy Sands Development, Ian Tan, said: “Sihanoukville being Cambodia’s strategic coastal region will play a key role in continuing Cambodia’s fast growth over the next decade. Being a relatively untapped market across the ASEAN region, one of the biggest markets in the world, we are confident that BAY OF LIGHTS will accelerate this trajectory further.”

The agreement was singed in December 2022.

The success of the Bay of Lights project will be largely due to its strategic location, just 8 minutes from Sihanoukville International Airport and 20 minutes from downtown Sihanoukville.

In addition, the $2 billion Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville expressway has improved the reliability, safety, and mobility of the Cambodian road network, making it easier for a large number of vehicles to travel to the area.
